First 10 Days of July: Kerala Records Just 3% Rainfall Deficit, Kasaragod Receives the Highest Rainfall

According to the official rainfall data for the first ten days of July, Kerala has recorded an overall rainfall deficit of just 3 percent. While the state as a whole has not experienced a significant shortfall, the distribution of rainfall across districts has been highly uneven.

Kasaragod Leads; Six Districts Receive Excess Rainfall

Kasaragod recorded the highest rainfall in the state during this period. Kannur, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kottayam and Alappuzha also received rainfall above their normal levels for the first ten days of July. 

In contrast, several other districts recorded below-normal rainfall. Most central and southern districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Wayanad, experienced rainfall lower than the seasonal average.

Uneven Rainfall Distribution Across the State

Although Kerala’s overall rainfall deficit stands at only 3 percent, rainfall has not been evenly distributed across the state. Some areas witnessed heavy downpours, while nearby locations received considerably less rain. This uneven distribution has resulted in significant variations in rainfall statistics between districts.

Unofficial Data Indicates Higher Rainfall in Kozhikode

Kozhikode presents an interesting case. Official data shows that the district received 226 mm of rainfall, representing a 23 percent rainfall deficit.

However, according to unofficial rainfall records, the district has actually received 336 mm of rainfall so far, said weather observer Rajeevan Erikkulam. He added that rainfall has not been uniform across the district, with some regions experiencing very heavy rain while others received comparatively lower amounts.

Coming Days Will Be Crucial

Although Kerala has recorded only a marginal rainfall deficit during the first phase of July, the rainfall pattern during the remaining days of the month will play a crucial role in determining the state’s overall monthly rainfall. Experts point out that the uneven distribution of rainfall could have a direct impact on agriculture and water resources across the state.

കനത്ത മഴയെ തുടർന്നുണ്ടായ മിന്നൽ പ്രളയത്തിലും ഉരുൾപൊട്ടലിലും അരുണാചൽ പ്രദേശിൽ വ്യാപക നാശനഷ്ടം. ദിബാങ് മാലി മേഖലയിലെ പാസുപാനി ആർമി ക്യാമ്പ് (Pasupani Army Camp) മിന്നൽ പ്രളയത്തിൽ പൂർണമായും ഒഴുകിപ്പോയതായാണ് വിവരം. അപകടത്തിൽ അഞ്ച് സൈനികരെ കാണാതായി.

മിന്നൽ പ്രളയത്തിൽ ക്യാമ്പിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഏഴ് സൈനികർ (Army Personnel) ശക്തമായ വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ ഒഴുക്കിൽപ്പെടുകയായിരുന്നു. ഇതിൽ രണ്ടുപേരെ രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്താൻ സാധിച്ചു. അഞ്ച് സൈനികർക്കായി രക്ഷാപ്രവർത്തകർ തിരച്ചിൽ തുടരുകയാണ്.കനത്ത മഴയെ തുടർന്ന് പെട്ടെന്ന് ജലനിരപ്പ് ഉയർന്നതാണ് അപകടത്തിന് കാരണമെന്നാണ് പ്രാഥമിക നിഗമനം. ക്യാമ്പിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന വാഹനങ്ങളും മറ്റ് ഉപകരണങ്ങളും വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ ശക്തമായ ഒഴുക്കിൽപ്പെട്ടതായും റിപ്പോർട്ടുകളുണ്ട്.

കാണാതായ സൈനികർക്കായുള്ള തിരച്ചിൽ-രക്ഷാപ്രവർത്തനം (Search and Rescue Operation) ഊർജിതമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ദുരന്തനിവാരണ സേനയും സുരക്ഷാ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരും പ്രദേശത്ത് രക്ഷാപ്രവർത്തനം തുടരുകയാണ്.

ഉരുൾപൊട്ടലിലും തൊഴിലാളികളെ കാണാതായി

അരുണാചൽ പ്രദേശിൽ വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച വൈകുന്നേരം മറ്റൊരു ദുരന്തവും റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്തു. അപ്പർ സുബൻസിരി ജില്ലയിൽ (Upper Subansiri District) ഉണ്ടായ ശക്തമായ ഉരുൾപൊട്ടലിൽ നാല് നിർമ്മാണ തൊഴിലാളികളെ കാണാതായി. ഉരുൾപൊട്ടലിൽ മണ്ണിനടിയിൽപ്പെട്ട തൊഴിലാളികൾക്കായി നടത്തിയ തിരച്ചിലിനിടെ ഒരാളുടെ മൃതദേഹം പിന്നീട് കണ്ടെത്തി. മറ്റ് മൂന്ന് പേർക്കായുള്ള തിരച്ചിൽ തുടരുകയാണ്.

കനത്ത മഴയിൽ രക്ഷാപ്രവർത്തനം ദുഷ്കരം

തുടർച്ചയായ മഴയും മണ്ണിടിച്ചിലും പ്രദേശത്തെ രക്ഷാപ്രവർത്തനത്തിന് വെല്ലുവിളിയാകുന്നുണ്ട്. റോഡുകളിൽ മണ്ണും പാറകളും അടിഞ്ഞതോടെ പല മേഖലകളിലേക്കുമുള്ള ഗതാഗതവും തടസ്സപ്പെട്ടു.

ദുരന്തനിവാരണ സേന (Disaster Response Teams) ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള വിവിധ ഏജൻസികളുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലാണ് തിരച്ചിലും രക്ഷാപ്രവർത്തനവും പുരോഗമിക്കുന്നത്. കാണാതായ സൈനികരെയും തൊഴിലാളികളെയും കണ്ടെത്തുന്നതിനായി കൂടുതൽ സംഘങ്ങളെ ദുരന്തബാധിത മേഖലകളിലേക്ക് എത്തിക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങളും തുടരുകയാണ്.

വടക്കുകിഴക്കൻ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിൽ മഴ ശക്തം

അരുണാചൽ പ്രദേശിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ശക്തമായ മഴയാണ് ലഭിക്കുന്നത്. മലനിരകളിൽ തുടർച്ചയായി മഴ ലഭിക്കുന്ന സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ മിന്നൽ പ്രളയം (Flash Flood), ഉരുൾപൊട്ടൽ, മണ്ണിടിച്ചിൽ തുടങ്ങിയ ദുരന്തങ്ങളുടെ സാധ്യത ഉയർന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. 

പ്രദേശത്തെ താഴ്ന്ന മേഖലകളിലും നദീതീരങ്ങളിലും താമസിക്കുന്നവർ ജാഗ്രത പാലിക്കണമെന്ന് അധികൃതർ നിർദേശിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. കാലാവസ്ഥാ സാഹചര്യം വിലയിരുത്തി കൂടുതൽ മുന്നറിയിപ്പുകളും സുരക്ഷാ നടപടികളും സ്വീകരിച്ചുവരികയാണ്.
