Argentine football legend Lionel Messi has extended a helping hand to the victims of the devastating wildfires in Spain’s Sierra Oeste region, which were triggered by an intense heatwave and prolonged drought. Messi donated €80,000 (approximately ₹8.8 million) to support relief operations and reconstruction efforts.

Government Expresses Gratitude 

Madrid Regional President Isabel Díaz Ayuso praised Messi’s generous contribution and thanked him through her official social media account.

“Thank you, Messi, for donating €80,000 to help rebuild the Sierra Oeste region. The people of Madrid look forward to giving you the welcome you deserve,” she wrote.

Direct Assistance for Victims 

Local authorities said Messi’s representatives have been in direct contact with the Madrid regional government to ensure the funds are allocated to the areas where they are needed most, allowing relief and rebuilding efforts to proceed effectively.

The Region Still Recovering

Although the wildfire, which raged for several weeks, has now been largely brought under control, the region is still far from returning to normal. Thousands of hectares of forest, along with numerous homes and public infrastructure, were destroyed in the blaze.

Strict safety restrictions remain in place in areas such as Pelayos de la Presa and San Martín de Valdeiglesias. Around the San Juan Reservoir, teams of firefighters and environmental experts continue to monitor the affected areas. Tourist attractions and major roads, including the M-957, remain closed until reconstruction work is completed.

A Continued Commitment to Charity 

The donation comes shortly after Messi returned to action for Inter Miami following his leadership of Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Through the Leo Messi Foundation, established in 2007, he has consistently supported children’s health, education, and sports development projects around the world.

Messi’s latest contribution has become a source of hope for families in Spain who lost their homes and livelihoods in the devastating wildfires, reinforcing his long-standing commitment to humanitarian causes.

മിന്നൽ പ്രളയത്തിൽ ക്യാമ്പിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഏഴ് സൈനികർ (Army Personnel) ശക്തമായ വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ ഒഴുക്കിൽപ്പെടുകയായിരുന്നു. ഇതിൽ രണ്ടുപേരെ രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്താൻ സാധിച്ചു. അഞ്ച് സൈനികർക്കായി രക്ഷാപ്രവർത്തകർ തിരച്ചിൽ തുടരുകയാണ്.കനത്ത മഴയെ തുടർന്ന് പെട്ടെന്ന് ജലനിരപ്പ് ഉയർന്നതാണ് അപകടത്തിന് കാരണമെന്നാണ് പ്രാഥമിക നിഗമനം. ക്യാമ്പിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന വാഹനങ്ങളും മറ്റ് ഉപകരണങ്ങളും വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ ശക്തമായ ഒഴുക്കിൽപ്പെട്ടതായും റിപ്പോർട്ടുകളുണ്ട്.
