Magnitude 4.8 earthquake shakes Yangon, Myanmar
A weak magnitude 4.8 earthquake shook Myanmar's commercial capital Yangon on Saturday, a US Geological Survey correspondent and AFP said, but there were no first-hand reports of damage. There wasn't.
The shaking, which lasted at least a minute, was felt in the city of about 8 million people at around 8:55pm (14:25 GMT), an AFP correspondent said.
The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers and its epicenter was 39 kilometers (24 miles) north of Yangon, according to the USGS.
There were no immediate reports of damage.
Earthquakes occur relatively frequently in Myanmar, which is located in an area with active tectonic movements.
