We'll see a supermoon in the sky tonight. This time, we will not only see a super moon but also a super blue moon. We will have to wait 14 years to see this phenomenon. A super blue moon is the second full moon to occur in a month. The full moon usually rises once a month. But rarely, when the full moon rises twice, it is called a blue moon.  

The moon is close to the earth.

A supermoon occurs when the Moon is the closest to earth in its orbit. During this time the Moon can be seen much larger and lighter than usual. A super blue moon is a full moon that comes after four full moons. ( super blue moon appears today )

What time does it happen?

According to Eastern Daylight Time, the second supermoon of the month will be seen tonight at 7.30 pm. In India, the blue moon will start at 9.30 pm tonight and will reach its peak at 7.30 am tomorrow.

When is the next Super Blue Moon?

According to NASA, the next Super Blue Moon will occur 14 years later. The next Super Blue Moon will be visible in January 2037, followed by March 2037.

Saturn will also be seen in the sky tomorrow along with the Blue Moon. Saturn can be seen with the naked eye. But if there is a binocular or telescope, it can be seen clearly.

The Blue Moon is not blue

Though the name has blue, when there is a blue moon, the moon will be orange in colour. A super blue moon occurs when there is a 180-degree separation between the sun and the moon. It will be bigger and brighter than the normal Moon, according to the space.com website. It is also the first super blue moon since India's Chandrayaan reached the moon.
